Chapter Two

The new settlement of Korchub soon became the new hub of activity for the people. They were astounded at the fine crafting of the wooden homes; so much so that soon similar, but cruder, structures sprang up at Mescida. The original camp was now much larger, and the land was being farmed in every direction but south. Korchub already had plantations and farms when it was discovered. Many in the tribe were awestruck to discover that they were not the Only People, and that others even were much more advanced than they. Still, for reasons not yet fully understood, the Muscidans were accepted as equals to the Korchubians and they soon grew to become one new People.

As the years went on in this manner, scouts pushed farther and farther north, but found only more and more wilderness. Sometimes there seemed to be signs of other tribes just beyond the horizon; but they found nothing.

Mescida never quite caught up to Korchub during this period, and though it improved over time it was always behind. Eventually the people’s first true city grew from the more advanced settlement. Straight roads, plastered and painted buildings with doors and windows, a vibrant market; and, looming over it all, a great ziggurat that dwarfed anything the people had yet built or even dreamed of. The change was so significant that the people felt it should be their new home; yet the Mescidans didn’t want to give up their Identity and their uniqueness. So they compromised, and started anew; both tribes gave up their names and decided to refer to themselves all together under a new name: The Babylonians.
