The Merchant is not a rugged adventurer but a purveyor of goods; this is a character that finds adventure in the marketplace rather than with the monsters of the wilderness. While some Merchants are traveling pedlars, others run caravans to distant lands. Some run shops in the cities, while others navigate the networks of banking and investment. The Merchant should not obtain his own treasures from questing but rather by trade, though he can produce his own wares through purchased raw materials. The Merchant is expected to find a particular place to use as a shop, stall, or regular selling place, and the more realistically this is approached the better the Merchant is playing the role.
Any class can be a Merchant, and a character can begin by settling down after a life of adventuring. The Merchant gains fame by being the wealthiest, or trading in the most exotic goods to the most distant lands.
