Treasure Adventure: Scene 2

With the first Key secured, attention has turned to the next. It turned out to be hiding in plain sight: it had been discovered years ago by an amateur treasure hunter in Scotland, who hadn’t the foggiest notion of what they’d found. Thinking it an odd but interesting trinket, they worked it into the third place trophy for a local rally race and were quite proud of themselves.

As the news of the second key’s discovery spread, treasure hunters from all over the world converged on the Scottish Highlands for the annual rally race. Each of them hoped to gain an edge in the treasure hunt, but none of them still knew who their rivals truly were.

The racers made last minute adjustments, tightening and topping off revving engines; the sounds echoing through the rugged landscape like roaring lions in sight of their prey as they lined up at the starting line. The archaeologist who had secured the first key stood among them, their eyes scanning the crowd and drivers for any sign of enemies.

The race would be grueling, with steep inclines, treacherous curves, and unpredictable weather. The vehicles would be pushed to their limits, drivers determined to come out on top. As the time wore on, the archaeologist began to find each of the other racers increasingly suspect. Flashes of uniforms, certain flags and symbols half seen in the shadows, traces of conversations with sinister whispers trailing behind. Minute after minute clicked by as the start drew nearer, anxiety and tension boiling across the grid.

Action:

Again, each player has a chance to be the Main Character in this scene. There are some differences this time though.

Step 1: Lay up to 4 Influence Cards in front of you. In this scene, certain suits affect the outcome:
Hearts: Driver
Diamonds: Choose the Car
Spades: At the start of the race, choose any computer driver to represent you
Clubs: Whatever driver comes in third was yours, unless it was another player or one chosen by the highest Diamonds.

Step 1b:
While the Main Character is driving, the other players are able to perform some special actions. Taking turns starting with the youngest player, each player can do one of the following:
a. Challenge any other player for their Key, or Challenge the Unknown Player if the first key went to them. To challenge the Unknown, play a single Influence Card. Roll d20 to get the value for the Unknown Player’s defence.
b. Challenge any other player to reveal their identity. No one will know what side is which yet, but the player won’t be able to conceal their identity when the time comes if it is revealed now.

Step 2: Load up Forza 4 on Xbox. The track is a custom track off the Arthur’s Seat course. If no player achieves 3rd place, or no player chooses to race, the trophy and Key go to the Unknown Party.
