Treasure Adventure: Scene 3

With two keys now in possession, the archaeologists knew that time was running out. They had to find the remaining two keys before their enemies did, or risk losing the fabled treasure forever.

One of the last keys was said to be located somewhere in the Empty Quarter of Saudi Arabia, a vast and unforgiving desert that few had ever ventured into. The adventurers knew that this would be a dangerous and grueling journey, but they were determined to see it through.

They assembled a team of experts and local guides and set out into the desert, their vehicles loaded with supplies and equipment. For days, they drove through the endless sand dunes, battling heat, thirst, and exhaustion.

The last remaining key was said to be locked away behind a series of intricately puzzling doors in a building somewhere in Europe. The structure is located in a remote part of the Swiss Alps, hidden away from prying eyes and accessible only by a treacherous mountain road.

The building was once part of a esoteric organization known only as the “Order of the Keepers,” whose members were tasked with safeguarding the key to the fabled treasure. For centuries, the Order had successfully kept the key hidden away, even as world wars and other conflicts raged around them.

The key was said to have been passed down from generation to generation, with each Keeper entrusted with the solemn duty of ensuring its safety. The secret had been safe for so long, but now a member of the fabled order had taken a change of heart and let known the exact location of the vault. None could prove how the knowledge had come out; perhaps it was destiny that the moment had come. Now all the adventurers knew that time was of the essence, and that they had to find the key before their rivals did.

Action:

There are now two chases going on at once. One side will go to Arabia, while the other goes to Switzerland. Players can choose which to pursue. Once the following is established, start this timer, using a range from 9 to 20 minutes.

Step 1a: Roll d20.
1-14: In Dakar Desert Rally, start up a Treasure Hunt with a classic car in the Empty Quarter. The next treasure to be unlocked represents the Key. If you crash hard enough to reset, the next most influential player takes over.
14-19: In Spelunky, complete the first four levels without dying. If you do, the next most influential player takes over.

Step 1b: Roll d4.
1-3: On a smartphone, start up a “Door Puzzle” type game, such as “1000 doors”, though there are many games like this. The Key is found after getting through d4+d6+d20 doors.
4: On a smartphone, start Pixel Dungeon. get through d4+d6 floors without dying. If you do, the next most influential player takes over.

Step 2: As before, influence cards are used to determine the Main Characters. In this case there are two, one for each path. Highest red card value wins Arabia, while highest black card value wins Switzerland.

Step 3: If either side finds their key, they have a chance to steal from the other side, so there’s not a moment to waste. Stop the timer. Start a game of Gang Beasts if the Xbox side is done first, start a game of Two Player Games if the phone side is done. Winner takes control of the remaining search, resuming the timer.
